Columbia University's Faculty Residence and The School at Columbia, located on the southeast corner of 110th Street and Broadway, was completed in September 2003. D'Agostino supermarket and Chase bank occupy the street-level retail spaces of the building, while Columbia University faculty residences are located on floors six to twelve.
As of the year 2006, The School at Columbia offer classes from kindergarten to eighth grade, serving children of faculty and other Columbia affiliates. Approximately 50% of the student body is drawn from NYC Community School Districts 3 and 5. For more information on The School at Columbia, please click here.
Public Approvals: The University worked closely with the local community to address the overall context of the building. Columbia University applied for and received several variances from the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA), as well as from Community Board 7. Collectively, the variances allowed for larger floor areas, which in turn allowed for a shorter building that is more contextual with the surrounding area.
