Columbia University/Goddard Riverside Tenant Assistance Project

This project provides legal aid for residents in Upper Manhattan, primarily Manhattan Valley, who are confronting eviction from rent-stabilized apartments due to gentrification. The Tenant Assistance Project also works with Columbia Law students each year to represent tenants in actions against landlords to have repairs made in their homes. Walk-in services are available every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Eligibility Requirements: Tenants who rent in Manhattan Valley (the area between 100th and 110th Streets, and between Broadway and Central Park West)

Community Law Partnership: Alianza Dominicana and Legal Aid Society

This partnership provides legal aid to immigrants dealing with the complicated system of immigration laws. This program offers legal advice and representation on immigration cases that go beyond getting legal status to work in the country or to travel to and from the country, allowing legal support for people under an order to be removed from the country or who are brought up on criminal charges based on immigration violations.

West Harlem Community Advocacy Partnership

The West Harlem Community Advocacy Partnership works with the community to protect long-term tenancies and to preserve affordable housing in Community District 9 by providing free legal advice and representation on housing issues, providing workshops and trainings on tenants rights and how to enforce them, and advocating for governmental policies that preserve or create affordable housing.

Registration/Application Deadline: Walk-ins at the CB9 Office (565 West 125th Street) on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month from 1 to 5 p.m. Applicants are seen in the order they arrive.
