Charles H. Revson Fellowship Program

The Charles H. Revson Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for self-development in mid-career for urban leaders who have made a substantial contribution to New York City. Each year, the program selects ten Fellows of diverse backgrounds and fields of achievement. Established in 1979, the Revson program has welcomed over 290 leaders to the University, providing tuition and financial support, academic guidance, and access to University resources. Revson Fellows engage in weekly seminars together while also pursuing individually designed programs of intellectual enrichment. There are no educational prerequisites for the fellowship.

Computer Training

The Computer Training Program offers both beginner and intermediate classes in Word. Specialized classes in Excel, Access, and PowerPoint are offered at different times throughout the year. The program also offers an advanced class in QuickBooks for students who have an interest in bookkeeping or accounting. The classes range in length from two weeks to ten weeks.

Dental Assistant Training Program

This one-year course of study trains students from economically disadvantaged communities to be professional dental assistants capable of becoming board certified and licensed in the state of New York.

The ESL program is an eleven-week course of study offering classes in four different levels, ranging from beginner to advanced. As a result, we are able to offer valuable learning services to a wide range of applicants at different stages of their professional, academic, and personal lives.

English as a Second Language

In cooperation with Dominican Sunday, Inc., Columbia's Office of Government and Community Affairs offers a free ESL program to residents of Manhattan Valley. The program assists residents with improving their English language speaking, reading, and writing proficiency skills. The program presently runs three nights a week and Saturday mornings, and currently serves sixty mostly Spanish-speaking residents.

Institute for Not-for-Profit Management

The Institute for Not-for-Profit Management offers intensive, non-degree programs for middle managers and executives to manage their organizations more efficiently. Approximately 10 percent of program alumni are from organizations based in Harlem and Upper Manhattan.

Institute for Research in African-American Studies (IRAAS)

IRAAS is an academic resource center that is building a new intellectual tradition upon the rich legacy of Harlem's history. The Institute administers the undergraduate and master's degree programs in African-American Studies, regularly sponsors academic conferences, lectures, and forums on a wide variety of topics, and produces the scholarly publication Souls: A Critical Journal of Black Politics, Culture and Society.

Northern Manhattan Health Sciences Internship Awards Program

Twelve local scholarships are available each year to enable local residents to complete the clinical hours required for a license in occupational therapy, physical therapy, radiological technology, or medical laboratory technology in New York. The scholarships will award $10 per hour for up to 1,500 hours.
Eligibility Requirements: Must be a resident of Community Districts 9, 10, 11, or 12 and enrolled in a CUNY or other state-certified training program. Must be in final stage of program completion with a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and demonstrate financial need. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Service Learning in Community Environment (SLICE)

SLICE is an eighteen-month program designed to help unemployed members of the community acquire technical and professional skills. The program teaches skills in software engineering, Web and database design, and Java programming. It involves six integrated courses, including academic and social mentoring, and interaction with world-class companies.
