President's House

Columbia University's President's House, constructed in 1912, was designed by McKim, Mead and White. The twenty-first-century construction project was the first major renovation to this structure in over half a century and included both building renovations and landscaping.

The building renovations, which were completed in the winter of 2004, included the replacement of mechanical, air-conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems. Extensive interior renovations consisted of new code-complying egress stairs and building infrastructure. Additionally, new handicap-accessible amenities have been incorporated into President's House, making the residence ADA compliant.

The initial phase of landscaping entailed the installation of fencing, exterior lighting, a decorative metal pergola, brick and flagstone paving, a drainage system and retaining walls, which are designed to support the use of the space as an outdoor venue for events. Landscaping was completed in the summer of 2005.
